What to expect when you choose Harmony Hoofcare:
START WITH
A BALANCED TRIM

The trim is the most important part of our process. First of all, the hoof is a dynamic structure. We allow the hoof to settle and de-rotate away from stressors. This may mean we touch each foot 3+ times and observe any movement or relaxing of the hoof capsule.
Second, we would love for all horses to maintain barefoot, and some do. Others need more help from shoes whether it be for protection, improvement to a gait, traction, etc.
Lastly, we take into consideration the whole body of the horse while trimming. For example, we look for stress in tendons, significant drop in the fetlock, and any deviations in the limb that might create a pathology in the hoof. Many horses have a dominant limb just like we do. This translates to their feet and can create inconsistencies between each hoof! Our goal is always a strong, healthy hoof capsule with minimal distortion. By trimming to minimize flares, separation, and stress, the end result is a healthy, tidy hoof that is capable of supporting the whole horse statically and under load.
CUSTOM SHOEING TO ACCOMODATE YOUR HORSE

We evaluate your horse as if it were our first time seeing them, every time. Every horse has deviations in their conformation. We look for rotational, angular, and flexural deviations in each limb. By putting modifications in shoes based on these deviations, we are able to minimize stress and improve balance in motion. By approaching each horse from multiple directions and perspectives, we notice even more. We can look at every horse statically, in motion, from the front, side, and behind, and see something new from each perspective.
Last, but not least, we always look at each limb under load. This is very important as the entire apparatus of the equine limb is under most stress when it is in full weight bearing. There is also a high possibility that weight distribution shifts under full load, similar to how our center of gravity shifts when we balance on one foot.
NEXT APPOINTMENT
SET BEFORE WE LEAVE

We pride ourselves on being punctual. We understand time is valuable, for both our clients and us. You can expect a text and email reminder 48 hours before and the day prior to your appointment. If we are ahead of schedule, or running late (horses are unpredictable), we will always send a text as soon as we know.
The best time frame for a trim/shoeing cycle is four weeks. Any amount of time beyond four weeks adds extra stress to tendons, ligaments, joints, and the hoof capsule. We stick to a strict 4 to 5 week cycle for all horses to maintain a healthy, balanced hoof capsule.
